workplace of the future

how might we bring together technology, culture, and people to shape a more inclusive and purposeful workplace?

the global pandemic has been an accidental catalyst changing both how we use offices (a place to gather and meet, rather than a necessary location for productive work), as well as how we see work-life balance (a new focus on physical and mental wellbeing).
with a post-pandemic outlook in mind, the client challenged us to re-imagine what their future of working could look like, from hybrid collaboration to community engagement.

01_research and ideation

we began by building a framework with emerging trends to appreciate the context in which this re-imagined workplace would exist. this allowed us to then ideate on "what could be" based on robust research.

i led the team through a series of ideation and synthesis exercises that enabled us to collectively cluster our ideas into 6 broad categories including technology, culture, workplace processes, wellbeing, and space. these ideas were presented to the client in a halfway interim review, and their feedback was used to inform the subsequent design direction.

02_design development

leading to final project delivery, i managed a team of architects, interior designers, workplace strategists, and sustainability consultants to translate the ideas developed in the previous phase into a holistic workplace ecosystem concept.

by structuring daily standups around a central storyboard with live updates, i was able to align a remote team spread across multiple time zones, and lead the delivery of a design strategy in half as much time as it normally takes. i also led the design of the flow and visual storytelling in the final presentation.

03_outcomes

we were told by the client that our concept was one of the strongest they had seen globally. many design concepts the team put forward have been integrated into the client's workplace experience strategy, and are currently being rolled out across their organization.

internally, the design strategy and speculative storytelling methods i developed during this engagement have been highlighted firmwide, and incorporated into large number of global hybrid workplace strategy engagements.
